The problem of the turtles on the railings of the Bayreuth Festival and the enormous loads that are moved there led to the development of this special roller. It was Willi Kausler's brilliant idea that made the end product so simple and functional.

At the Bayreuth Festival, very large and heavy decorative elements are moved across the site. This is partly public road land, there are manhole covers, curbs, gutters and other very uneven situations. In addition, there is a transition with a difference in inclination from the stage, which has a stage drop of 2.5%, to the outside area, which is basically flat.

Especially there, the existing turtles, which are necessary due to the high loads, have repeatedly been destroyed because of their rigidity in the slewing ring. Dangerous and complicated replacement processes became necessary, not least because of occupational safety aspects, this was not acceptable.

Attempts to mount Turtles so that they could be moved initially resulted in the rollers with the load tipping over because the pivot point was above the Turtle. The further development was carried out by moving the pivot point far down, so that the Turtles were extremely mobile and also offered a high level of security against unintentional tipping.

The mobility also ensures that the load is always evenly distributed over the three rollers. The vulnerable slewing ring was replaced by a commercially available and inexpensive trailer hitch. A load capacity of up to 2 T is achieved. This was necessary for the Lohengrin side walls, where an 18m long wall can only be moved on four rollers due to the geometry.

The turtles have proven themselves and were later used in many other projects, for example all stage wagons of the turntable of the Bayreuther Ring 2013, Roxy's wagon at the Komische Oper, and the core of Hoffmann, which was moved on four tilting turtles with its own weight of 4 tons.
